Moisturizer Treatments
The skin contains a number of lipids, a type of fat, that actively help to keep moisture in the skin. One type of these lipids are called Ceramides, and can now be found in a new generation of advanced moisturizing products, which contain the same balance of lipids as are naturally found in your skin. While these products can be used by anyone with dry skin to help increase the moisture of their skin, studies have found Ceramide based products to be extremely effective in helping to treat eczema.

CeraVe is one such product which uses a specially developed and patented delivery technique called Multivesicular Emulsion or MVE to ensure its ingredients penetrate deep into your skin. CeraVe is highly recommend because of it’s extremely affordable price and wide spread availability. You may be able to purchase it over the counter for under $20.00.
Another product that is available over the counter is a moisturizer called TriCeram. This is labelled as a “Ceramide Dominant Barrier Repair”; the product contains a unique combination of natural ingredients that help the skin to repair its natural moisture barrier. TriCeram is more expensive at about $30 for a 3.4 ounce tub, however there is evidence that shows that using TriCeram alongside current eczema therapies helped the skin to heal a lot faster than using just eczema medications alone.
Finally, Remergent’s Barrier Repair Formula is a product which also has it’s own unique application system which they call merospheres. Merospheres contain lipids, which surround a chemical called ursolic acid. They work by causing the cells in your skin to produce ceramides to retain moisture, as well as other chemicals which firm up collagen. In this dual action approach the Barrier Repair Formula is an excellent way of moisturizing as well as reducing wrinkles. It is however the most expensive of the products mentioned here, at $95 for a 50ml pack.
However it is worth remembering that these moisturizers can be an extremely effective treatment for dried skin, and are often cheaper and a lot less painful than expensive chemical peels or laser treatments.
